Ignorance is Bliss

Buzz this
"Not knowing something can be often comfortable than knowing it..."
Thomas Gray an 18th Century poet has also written in one of his poem as:
“Where ignorance is bliss, / ‘Tis folly to be wise.’”
What is the importance of these idioms & phrases in today's scenario? In an outline one can conclude that being ignorant will really hurt you and the people around you. One such instance is AIDS, if you don't want to know about this disease and how this is getting spread, definitely this is not going to be "bliss", in line with the same concept, being a socio-active human being, I would like to share the following design from my designer portfolio.

The ultimate aim of every Government and NGO's is to control and gradually eradicate the disease, whilst giving good care and social status to those who have been affected already.

Know about the disease, be safe, be secure and wise.
Ignorance is AIDS

T-Shirt Designs - Some Tips

Buzz this
Designing for a T-Shirt may not be a very easy job, when we are looking out for Great Design Output. Many a times it so happens that after investing a considerable amount of time in designing a T-shirt concept, we find out that it has not come out well or it has some thing lacking to make it a Great Design. To, avoid such self-satisfaction related issues, a designer may follow the listed items to derive a Great Looking Design.
  • Rough Sketching
  • Color Selection
  • Selection of Images or Cliparts [Vector Vs Raster]
  • Fonts Selection
  • Spacing Selections

Realtime examples have been given from my designer porfolio, you can find URL linkages after here and there in the article.

Rough Sketching:
Many of the designers do this part mentally. However, if it's been done on a paper or digital canvas, this will give the designer an pre-look on how the design is going to come out.

Color Selection:
Color selection is of two types one is the T-Shirt color selection, which is Background color and the other one is about the colors that will be used inside the design. A designer has to be very careful in choosing the background color as well as the suitable design colors to give more aesthetic value to the design.

Selection of Images or Cliparts:
High resolution images should be selected for usage. Never take a low-res image and then scale it to make it bigger, as it will get pixelated due to which the design will look bad on screen and very bad on print.

Vector Images are the preferred one when compared to Raster, the main difference between Vector & Raster is very simple to understand. When a Vector image is scaled to fit a size that we require, it won't loose the detail in it and give good resolution even after scaling it. Whereas a Raster image if scaled will get pixelated, thus giving a bad image quality during print.

Image Seletion Example: http://www.myntra.com/Patience-Preacher/T-Shirt/FC/PD/1204485639

Fonts Selection:
Font selection is a very important aspect in designing. Avoid choosing normal or general fonts that are available all over. Make sure the font that you pick supports your design. For example, if your concept is funny choose a font, which looks funny or childish. Emphasis to fonts with bold, italic etc., should also be used wherever required.

Fonts Design Example: http://www.myntra.com/Love-Order/T-Shirt/FC/PD/1213064279

S p a c i n g Selections:
Spacing between images and fonts, or with lines and characters also play a good role in getting a Great Looking Design. Make sure that before and after spacing is different from others and conveys the matter without abberation. A proper Word/Line break will add more strength to the concept that is getting conveyed.

Spacing Design Example: http://www.myntra.com/Eating-Habit/T-Shirt/FC/PD/1214682291

After completing the design, if some one is around, you can always ask for their suggestion, or else do a review on the next day so that you will have a fresh mind to find out some aesthetic issues in the completed design.

After uploading the design and waiting for near to a month, I got the results atlast, the pleasant surprise was, mine has been selected as First!!!

The theme was to create a card with address and email ID, whereas I had done some research and added the portal's other online contact points, like Orkut, Facebook, Twitter etc., which actually had won me this prize.

Interview Content:

About me: An Art Addict! A Picture is Worth Thousand Words! But, I believe in "A Picture with Words can be Serene on what you Intend" There are lots of designer with different intellections; Myntra is a Prissy Place to Learn and Bestow....

My interests: Video Games, Social Networking, Driving & Designing!

Myntra: Give us a brief introduction about yourself and your profession.
Gokulavan:An Art Addict [Should I call A3 to begin with], a positive attitude intellect and a person who gets pride in successful completion of humble things. My academic education just started like every other blessed child @ L.K.G and currently it is stationary @ M.Phil, there is no stopping as far as short term high value courses are concerned, like PMP (Project Management Professional), Lead Auditor, Diploma in Computer Networking Technology etc., it keeps going on and on and on... I manage, Quality Management System, Information Security Management System & Six Sigma for the Chennai Unit of a BPO company who is supposed to be a Pioneer for Indian BPO sector.

Myntra: How did you get into the field of designing?
Gokulavan:It all started when I used black sketch pen for coloring the face of a guy in my 2nd Grade Coloring/Drawing Book [Still I am an Object of Ridicule for my Mom & Sis for that awesome coloring concept]. Years ran together, one fine day, there was a project in the current organization, which dealt with designing of Cover Pages for many a international books, I was not a part of that team initially, but some how the conceptual requirements given by the authors of the book turned on the internal designer in me. My thoughts and vision were different from the designers then. And I found myself in the field of designing.

Myntra: What does designing mean to you?
Gokulavan: Designing is a fine blend of ones intellect, outlines and color. When I say intellections it is directly linked to perception, so a little care should be invested here. In this contemporary world, designing is more pleasurable along with the sophisticated designing applications, which are readily available all over.

Myntra: How did you get to know about Myntra?
Gokulavan: Through an email » in my Inbox » from Myntra. Initially I didn’t put much of my designing efforts @ Myntra. Later when there were contests with concepts for designing, it got interesting...

Myntra: What is your inspiration/ motivation for creating designs?
Gokulavan: Let me speak about motivation first: It was the Coloring/Drawing book, which was bought by my parents, then the Book Cover Designing Project and now it’s Myntra, these three have major contribution towards my motivation for designing. Now for Inspiration: I get inspired to anything, which can influence any one of my 6 senses. Inspiration comes like a Shooting Star, like a New Life, like a Dream, like Reality, like Mother Nature.

Myntra: How do you start creating a design?
Gokulavan: A sheer mix of concepts, worldly images, societal happening and strong instincts will immediately ask a famous personality to cut the ribbon for a new storyboarding session intellectually inside me. The resultant from storyboarding session will be converted into a digital design.

Myntra: What is your favorite area of designing?
Gokulavan: According to my perception a designer will not restrict himself with limitations. Just to answer this tricky question, everything under this cosmos is my favorite area.

Myntra: How do you think Myntra can help a designer further?
Gokulavan: Lots of designers with different intellections amalgamate here. Myntra has already built the runway, which can connect continents and even outer space, it’s now the designers turn to takeoff and land befittingly. Like I always say “Myntra is a Prissy Place to Learn and Bestow...” I am not sure about the limitations Myntra have, but they can consider accepting/printing designs for full length of a T-shirt. This might yield more creative designs from the designers.

Myntra: How are you promoting your designs? How do you think you can promote your designs better?
Gokulavan: Sending out an email about my new design is one way. In some emails I place my Myntra shop’s link in the Signature part. Moreover I religiously utilize the email facility, which is being provided by Myntra instantly once the design is published. I am planning to put my shop’s link in few of the blogs that I use.

Myntra: What are the steps you think Myntra needs to take to promote designs in a better way?
Gokulavan: Myntra is at a good pace and galloping on the right track, I could see recent partnerships with many organizations, which will be fruitful. Cool discounts @ Summer Sale. Tee-Off is already off the mark. On behalf of the designers I should thank the Business Development Unit* @ Myntra who are more competitive in coming up with many a great ideas & solutions. One of the solutions that sparked in me is a Small Color Ad Leaflets along with the monthly Bills/Invoices. Bills/Invoices are now an integral part of the bourgeois & affluent class of people, every month at the least one to three such elements hits the doorsteps through snail mail/courier, may be Myntra should partner with organizations in Telecom sector/Banking Sector to send this leaflet along with their bills/invoice envelope. *Whoever has contributed in promoting the designs are considered to be a part of Business Development Unit. ;)

Myntra: What are your other interests and hobbies?
Gokulavan: Playing Video Games, Social Networking, Driving, Chatting & Writing Reviews.

Myntra: Who are your favorite designers at Myntra?
Gokulavan: Whenever such question is aired, I get a short-term memory loss. ;) There are myriad designers, and I see some new designers who are really awesome. Old is always Gold, the value is always on the increasing note. I don’t want to list few and leave many.

Myntra: Who do you think is most creative person of all time anywhere in the world? Gokulavan: God...
God is such a great designer who had envisaged a lot to create this world. Be it be a living thing or non-living thing, God has created this cosmos with great attention and detail.

Myntra: What are your aspirations as a designer?
Gokulavan: Most of my designs carry some message for a social cause. If this can turn up even a single entity in this world, I would be the happiest person to know that. [Kindly leave me a note if this happens]. I’ve always been self conscious, I believed, I was never prepared to be designer, for I had no former education on designing line. Only through so many motivational factors, I found myself in touch with real bliss. I started to feel confident in showing my designs and felt I was touching my soul as well others. Down the line I aspire to be a full time working designer; it’s a huge mammoth gift, because you can put all of you for the art of designing.

Happy Reading!
Gokulavan
